It's The End Of The World
On December 21st, the world will end - if you believe all the conspiracy theorists, that is. The Mayan calendar comes to the end of its 5,125 year long cycle, as it has done every 5,125 years or so. Our own calendar ends every december 31. And yes, there is a lot of fuss made about that too, but usually in a drunken party kind of way. (The Mayan calendar actually runs for ohhh, roughly 63 million years - give or take a few seconds.)
A lot of the crazies are running about trying to scare the bejesus out of people. Speculation is rampant as to what will actually happen on the fateful day itself. From fire balls to tsunamis, Nibiru to polar shifts, there are a number of theories about how the demise of the world will happen. Even the good old zombie virus has made its way up the ranks.
I'm sure I will still be picking up poop on the 22nd. Unless, of course, I get the Magic Poop Collector.
On to a more serious subject, but somewhat in the same category.
Have you given any thought into Pet Estate Planning?
What happens to Petsy if something terrible happens to you?
According to the American Bar Association, animal law is one of the fastest growing legal specialties.
Most states have passed laws that allow pet owners to pass on assets for their pets care should something happen to them.
Bequeathing money for pet-care after you are deceased has gone from something of a joke to something more and more people are taking seriously. Remember when Leona Helmsley left her dog Trouble over $12 million in 2007? It was played out in the media as some sort of crazy eccentric lady doing something irrational, rather than as a women who really cared for her dog as a member of her family.
Even LegalZoom.com has a simple to set up Pet Protection Agreement.
Do you trust friends and family will take care of your pets just as you wish? Or would it be better to get something in writing - with the money to back it up, of course?
I personally have not done this yet. But as the world is about to end yet again, it just got me thinking.
